Overview

MOT History is an Android app that helps users check the MOT history of UK vehicles by registration number.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses, how it is used, and what third parties may process data on our behalf.

Information We Process

Vehicle registration searches

When you search for a vehicle, the registration number you enter is sent to our backend service so the app can request MOT history data from the DVSA MOT History service.

We use this information only to perform the lookup you requested.

Recent searches and saved vehicles

The app stores the following locally on your device:

• recent successful vehicle lookups
• vehicles you choose to save
• your theme preference

This local data is stored on your device and is used only to provide app features.

Advertising and consent

The app uses Google AdMob to display ads and Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage ad-consent choices where required.

Google and its partners may collect device and advertising-related information to serve, measure, and improve ads, subject to your consent choices and applicable law.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not provide user accounts.

We do not intentionally collect:

• your name
• email address
• phone number
• payment information
• precise location

We do not sell your personal information.

How Information Is Used

We use information only to:

• perform MOT history lookups you request
• show vehicle results in the app
• store your recent searches and saved vehicles on your device
• remember app appearance settings
• display ads and manage ad consent
• monitor backend reliability and diagnose service issues

Third-Party Services

The app relies on third-party services, including:

• Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform
• Google Cloud Run backend hosting
• DVSA MOT History API

These services may process limited technical or request information as needed to provide their functionality.

Data Retention

• Recent searches and saved vehicles remain on your device until removed by you or until the app is uninstalled or cleared.
• Backend service logs may temporarily contain technical request information for operational and security purposes.
• We aim not to retain vehicle registration lookups longer than needed for service operation and debugging.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect service credentials and backend systems. DVSA credentials are handled server-side and are not intended to be exposed in the Android app.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Children's Privacy

This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices

You can:

• stop using the app at any time
• remove saved vehicles and recent searches from the app
• reset local app data through your device settings
• review ad privacy choices where available through the app settings

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version should always be made available at the public policy URL listed in Google Play.
